Leontief
Wassily, geboren 1906 in Russland, kam 1931 über Deutschland und China in die Vereinigten Staaten, wo er v.a. in Harvard (1946–1975) lehrte; ⇡ Nobelpreis für Wirtschaftswissenschaften 1973. L., ein in St. Petersburg ausgebildeter Mathematiker, hat die ⇡ Input-Output-Rechnung erfunden und praktisch angewendet. Sein ganzes wissenschaftliches Leben hat er mit der Ausarbeitung, Verfeinerung und Anwendung dieser Technik zugebracht. Wichtigster Niederschlag dieser Arbeit sind die Bücher „The Structure of American Economy, 1919–1929“ (1941) und „Studies in the Structure of the American Economy“ (1953, mit anderen Autoren) sowie „Essays in Economics“, 2 Bände (1966/1977).
